Marsha P. Johnson was an influential African American transgender activist who played a significant role in the Stonewall uprising of 1969. She was a strong advocate for the rights of marginalized groups, including people of color, transgender individuals, and those living with HIV/AIDS. Johnson co-founded the Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries (STAR), which offered support and resources for homeless LGBTQ+ youth. She was known for her vibrant fashion sense and was a beloved figure in the LGBTQ+ community, earning the nickname "mayor of Christopher Street." Johnson's activism and life have been celebrated and remembered in various documentaries and films. Her death in 1992 was initially ruled a suicide, but many still believe she was the victim of foul play.
